IAML Prague 2022 Congress of Music Librarians
The Jan Stadler Library presented itself to the professional library community at the annual international congress of the International Association of Music Libraries, Museums and Information Centres. This event is held every year in a different world capital with a large music library. This year, after two years of postponements due to the covid, it was Prague's turn: the organizing organization was the Czech group IAML. The expert programme of lectures and workshops took place in the premises of the Municipal Library and the National Library in Prague.
Czech libraries and librarians presented themselves in several expert sessions. The very first section was devoted to the care of the musical legacy of four great composers, Smetana, Dvořák, Janáček and Martinů, and featured representatives of museums and other institutions that care for sources related to their lives and works.
Czech music librarians then actively participated in other professional sections, in particular RISM (International Inventory of Music Sources), RILM (International Inventory of Music Literature). The working group from the Music Department of the National Library presented their publications - book catalogues of historical music collections.
The Jan Stadler Library presented a poster presentation on 26 July. The head of the library, Jana Vozkova, and the librarian, Noemi Guerrero, informed those interested about the life of Jan Stadler, the origin and composition of the library, and the method and procedure of processing its collection. Colleagues were interested in the specific Central European context of Jan Stadler's fate, as well as the focus of the library and the Stadler-Trier Music Foundation on supporting young talented artists.
The congress, attended by nearly three hundred participants from all over the world, offered, in addition to the professional programme, a social and cultural programme such as a half-day trip to Nelahozeves, two concerts and several social gatherings in Prague's representative spaces - the Mirror Hall of the Klementinum, the Smetana Hall of the Municipal House and the auditorium of the historic National Theatre.
The halls of the congress housed the stands of various book publishers offering their products throughout the congress.
The poster at the IAML congress was the first official presentation of the existence and activities of the Jan Stadler Library, presented at a time when the processing of the collection is already well advanced and when only a few months remain until the library opens to the public (in January 2023).
